Group Class Courses
Introduction

The group class courses at East Mandarin follow the pattern of regular schools. We have three terms: Spring (Jan.-Jun.),Summer (Jul.-Aug.) and Autumn (Sep.-Dec.). Students can register for any term which is an independent and complete study level. Students usually can raise their Chinese to a higher level with a short-term’s study. When one term finishes, students can either arrange their schedule to their own requirements or attend the next term’s study so as to improve their Chinese step by step.

Taking the group class course is an excellent way to learn Mandarin, as it has the following advantages. A term is a relatively independent period of learning and the teachers have comprehensive and systematic arrangements for the schedule of study, including review, exercises and tests, etc.; the students can have advance knowledge of their schedule of study and set their expectations of progress accordingly; it is easier to obtain the ideal study result as the learning proceeds with a fixed and scientific schedule; students can help and communicate with others in their study; the class atmosphere is more active and interesting this way.

Major Group Class Courses

Comprehensive Course: A systematic and comprehensive study of Mandarin, improving students’ proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing. As the most effective way of language learning, it is suitable for students who set themselves a quite high goal in Mandarin learning. Students learn to read and write Chinese characters in class. Equal emphasis is put on listening, speaking and reading comprehension. There are abundant opportunities for students to improve their speaking and writing skills.
Practical Conversation Course: A Mandarin course that puts stress on the practical use of the language. It is suitable for students who have limited time for study but are in urgent need of the skills of oral communication. There are more listening and speaking exercises in class. Emphasis is placed on improving the students’ skills of oral communication. Students don’t need to deal with the Chinese characters; they only learn the Chinese phonetic letters (Pinyin). The Elementary Conversation Course teaches basic conversation in different scenarios; the Intermediate Conversation Course teaches speaking skills for deeper conversations with Chinese people; and the Advanced Conversation Course trains the students in their language abilities to express themselves perfectly and fluently and to exchange views on a great variety of topics.
Chinese Character Studies: A course designed to help students master Chinese characters more easily and quicker. It helps students increase the number of Chinese characters they know and improve their proficiency in writing Chinese characters. It is suitable for beginners who are used to learning a language through reading or students who have mastered primary or even intermediate and advanced spoken Mandarin but whose comprehensive Mandarin skills still lag behind.
Business Chinese Course: A practical course designed for professionals who need to use Chinese in their work. The contents of the course, which may be determined according to the individual’s practical needs, cover basic business Chinese conversation, business and office expressions, skills in business meetings, work reports, business knowledge, etc.
